ART STUDIO INITIATIVE
The name of the art studio Onyx et Ivory refers to the color symbolism of two natural materials: black mineral (onyx) and ivory. Both materials carry rich cultural and historical significance.
Onyx, symbolizing darkness and strength, represents depth, protection, and inner focus. It absorbs light, embraces shadow, and transforms it in silence. Onyx protects against external influences while helping to manage inner unrest. It is associated with the depths, night, the unknown, mystery, as well as wisdom and perseverance.
Ivory, characterized by its whiteness, embodies purity, light, delicacy, but also fragility, unique value, and spiritual balance. Historically, it symbolized respect for the past, tradition, and elegance.
The combination of these two contrasting elements creates a harmony of opposites, serving as a source of inspiration for the studio's artistic process. Onyx et Ivory captures this duality primarily through black-and-white drawing, where each stroke and every shade between black and white represents meditation on the duality of the world and human existence itself.
The studio also engages with traditional art not only through visual contrasts but also through thematic ones: light and dark, good and evil, brightness and shadow… and other contrasts that the artist and the viewer continually encounter.
Onyx et Ivory is not just the name of an art studio; it is a philosophy expressing a connection to the history of art, the tradition of visual creation, and the timeless symbolism of opposites that shape both humanity and society.
The studio is not operated for profit but exists as an authorial creative initiative.
